Laptop and Mobile Hotspot Borrowing Policy

Purpose & Eligibility

The NASNTI (Native American-Serving Nontribal Institutions) Department, in partnership with Nash Library, lends laptops and mobile hotspots to support USAO students’ academic work.

  • Who may borrow: Current USAO students (priority may be given to NASNTI-eligible students).

  • Availability: First-come, first-served; subject to inventory and scheduling.

Cost

  • No rental fees.

  • Late/overdue fees and repair/replacement charges may apply per Library schedule.

Loan Periods & Renewals

  • Laptops & Hotspots: 30 days or semester-long checkout.

  • Semester loans require a check-in/renewal every 30 days.

  • Items must be returned on or before the due date to avoid fees or holds.

Appropriate & Lawful Use

Library/NASNTI equipment may be used only for lawful purposes and in ways appropriate to a university environment. Prohibited uses include:

  • Content or activity illegal under U.S. law

  • Unsafe, harmful, or dangerous uses that pose risk to others

  • Graphic/obscene content or uses that violate USAO policy

Hotspots — Off-Campus Use Only

Hotspots are for off-campus use only. Using a hotspot on campus interferes with University Wi-Fi and is not permitted. Borrowers who use hotspots on campus may lose borrowing privileges.

Care, Damage, Loss

Borrowers accept financial responsibility for equipment and all accessories while on loan.

  • Estimated replacement (subject to change):

    • Laptop: ≈ $1,200

    • Hotspot: ≈ $310

  • Charges may include repair/replacement and processing fees.

  • Unpaid charges may be billed to your university account.

Privacy & Data

  • Contact/personal information you provide is used only for loan coordination (pickup, due-date notices, issues).

  • Data on devices: Any files, photos, or software you add may be erased at return during standard sanitization. Back up your work before returning.

  • Purchases you make (apps/content) cannot be refunded and may be removed at check-in.

Returns

  • Return items in person at the Library Front Desk during open hours (no book drop).

  • Return devices clean, complete, and in working order with chargers, cases, cords, and other accessories.

Enforcement

Failure to follow this policy (e.g., misuse, repeated late returns, damage, on-campus hotspot use) may result in fees, holds, and/or loss of borrowing privileges.
