1) Purpose & Agreement
Nash Library exists to provide access to information and protect shared resources for the USAO community. By using any Library space, collections, equipment, or services, you agree to follow the policies below.
2) Who May Use the Library
USAO students, faculty, and staff enjoy full access to Library resources and services.
Community borrowers may purchase a Nash Library card ($25 for six months) for borrowing privileges.Why a fee? USAO students support the Library through per-credit-hour fees; community card fees help ensure equitable support for student-funded services.
All other visitors may use materials in-house but may not check out items or use public computers.
Access to print resources is not denied or limited on the basis of race, religion, sex, national origin, disability, or age.Individuals under 18 who are not enrolled at USAO must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
3) Identification
The Library may require valid ID to access facilities, collections, or equipment. Users who do not comply with Library guidelines may be asked to show ID and/or to leave by Library or University authorities.
4) Computers & Technology
Library workstations are provided for academic research and coursework.
Priority: USAO students, faculty, and staff have first priority for computers and other Library resources.
High-demand periods: Use may be limited during finals week.
Content standards: Displaying inappropriate or harassing content on Library workstations is prohibited and may constitute sexual harassment under applicable law and University policy. Violations will be addressed seriously and may result in sanctions.
5) User Rights
All Library users are entitled to:
Courteous, professional assistance from Library staff
Appropriate access to Library resources
Materials that are clean, intact, and in good condition
A quiet study and research environment free from harassment
A clean and safe physical environment
6) User Responsibilities
All Library users are expected to:
Treat others and staff courteously
Maintain access to materials by checking out items before removing them from the Library, returning items by the due date, and responding promptly to recall notices
Keep Library materials clean, unmarked, and undamaged
Help maintain a quiet study environment
Follow all public workstation and equipment-use guidelines
7) Building Use & Safety Rules
To ensure a safe, productive environment:
No excessive noise or disruptive behavior
No vandalism or marking of collections, equipment, or the building
No threatening behavior or unwanted attention toward others (may be referred to Campus Police)
Minors: Children under 18 may enter only with a parent/guardian unless currently enrolled; you may be asked to show a valid USAO ID
No bicycles, skateboards, rollerblades, or similar devices inside (mobility aids are welcome)
Do not block aisles, stairwells, or stack areas
No soliciting, selling, or posting materials from off-campus groups in entrances or inside the Library
Unattended belongings may be removed to Lost & Found for safekeeping
Use approved entrances/exits only (except during emergencies)
The Library uses theft-detection equipment and may conduct manual exit inspections; Campus Police may be contacted if theft is suspected
During emergencies, follow instructions from Library staff and public safety personnel
Prohibited: weapons, alcoholic beverages, and illegal substances
Dress code: shoes and shirts are required at all times
8) Enforcement
Failure to follow Library policies may result in:
Being asked to leave the Library
Temporary or permanent suspension of Library privileges
Referral to University conduct processes and/or USAO Security as appropriate
