The text reads: "Words of Commendation

It gives me the deepest pleasure to speak in praise of the work done by Miss Mary Thompson, whose Indian name is Te Ata.

She has more than an ordinary talent; in many ways she shows genius.

Hers is the beautiful stage presence which wins the instant recognition of an audience.

Her programme of Indian lore is presented with finish and spirit.

She has a breadth of sympathies, quick perception, and buoyancy which mark her work as exceptional.

If she continues as she has begun, I predict great things for her.
