Library renovation news

As you have probably seen and heard over the past few weeks, Nash Library is undergoing several changes. We were lucky enough to receive a substantial donation of high-density shelving from the Hertz Corporation in Oklahoma City. The high density shelving will allow us to store bound journals which in turn will free up the space next to the women's restroom on the ground floor. Our plan, and we hope you will tell what you think about it, is to create a lounge area for students who commute to campus. If all goes according to plan, we will provide several lockable compact refrigerators for commuters to keep their food. There will also be a microwave, a dining table and chairs, and some other comfortable seating. If you have suggestions for this area, we'd love to hear them.

The high-density shelving will also allow us to move the contents of the University Archives, now in room 305, to the ground floor. We plan to use room 305 as a traditional reading room which will be free of noisy technology. If you have ideas about this room, we're listening.

You have probably seen a lot of trees being cut down between Lawson and Nash. These trees are very old and have long roots which are damaging the library's ground floor. In fact, one of the roots severely damaged the floor in room 105. The floor was excavated and we are waiting for a new floor to be poured. Once that is done, the high-density shelving will be installed.
