Washington, D. C., Sept. 14th., 1894.

Lieut. Maury Nichols
U. S. Indian Agent,
Kiowa Agency
Anadarko, Oklahoma.

Sir:-

On the basis of supervisoe Rakestraw's reports Mr. and
Mrs. Clark at the Kiowa agency school were dismissed the service.
I am requested by the Commissioner to make further inquiry into
their case in order to determine to what extent the dismissal was
justified. The dismissal was based upon the charge of intriguing
character and meddlesome spirit, proving highly prejudicial to the
service, and a manifest unwillingness to testify in the investi-
gation of superintendent McCormick, with whom they seemed to be
allied. An early answer will greatly oblige.

Very respectfully,
W. N. Hailmann
Sup't. Indian Schools
